Born in 1988 in Brazil and based in Marseille - France, Anna Moraes explores different understandings of contemporary drawing that typically respond to location and interact with landscape. Her research examines the relationship between drawing and its connection to environment, space, and nature, stemming from her observation and experience of the world. Through her practice, she investigates how subtle elements can reveal profound connections between human perception and natural phenomena.

To materialize her artistic investigations, Anna Moraes works across multiple media, including drawing, installation, sound art, and video. Her process begins with the fundamental elements of drawing - point, line, space, and image - before expanding into other forms of expression when the work demands it. This multimedia approach allows her to fully explore the complexities of her subjects, whether creating mountains from X-rays of friends and family members, exploring the transition from blue sky to white fog, or simulating a potential fall from the sky - works that draw from both ecological concerns and Brazilian indigenous cosmology.

Her academic research and artistic practice are enriched through collaborations with research groups at UDESC and UFMG universities, contributions to specialized art publications, and engagement with creative process investigation spaces. This network of institutional partnerships allows her to deepen the theoretical foundations of her practice while maintaining a dynamic dialogue between academic research and artistic creation. Currently, she develops a series called "mofo" (mold), which synthesizes her interests in drawing techniques and anthropological studies, creating a bridge between her earlier landscape-based works and new explorations of organic forms and processes.

Anna Moraes holds a Master's degree in Art History from UDESC (2019) and a Ph.D. in Visual Arts, Contemporary Artistic Processes from UDESC (2024). Her work has received significant recognition, including the Contemporary Art French Alliance Award/SC (2020) and the Festival do Minuto: Best Minutes Award (2022). She has exhibited widely, participating in notable exhibitions such as the International Biennial of Curitiba (2019), the VI Sertão Biennial (2023), and the Open Doors Project at the 13th Mercosul Biennial (2022). Her work has been selected for various open calls and public notices in Brazil and Europe, and she completed an artistic residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2021).
